Known for its forests, waterfalls and holy sites, the eastern state of Jharkhand has large swaths of rural land, and its cuisine is simple with mostly rice, beans and vegetables that grow in the area. Bihar, the state nearby is one the least economically developed states in India. The cuisine of Bihar is very similar to North Indian cuisine. Bordering China and Nepal among the Himalaya mountains, Sikkim is the least populous state in India but is known for its biodiversity and mountain peaks. Like the cuisine of Nepal, rice and fermented foods are popular in Sikkim.
